AQA - BEES: UNDERSTANDING AND CARING FOR POLLINATORS

A gentle, accessible AQA-accredited unit introducing children to bees, pollination and how to care for our vital pollinators.

Our Bees: Understanding and Caring for Pollinators AQA Unit is a calm, nature‑based learning experience designed for SEND learners, home‑educated children, and anyone who thrives with hands‑on, low‑pressure learning.

This Entry Level unit helps children explore different types of bees, why they matter, and simple ways humans can protect them.

Learners will:

• recognise different types of bees (honeybees, bumblebees, solitary bees)

• understand why bees are important for plants, food and the environment

• identify what bees need to survive (flowers, water, shelter)

• spot bee‑friendly plants and match plants that rely on pollinators

• observe real bees or bee‑friendly spaces in a guided, safe way

• describe simple bee behaviours such as collecting pollen or resting

• take part in creative, sensory activities like seed bombs, bee baths or nature crafts

• learn what pollination is in simple, child‑friendly language
